This is a fascinating shipwreck and this painting was my first such oil on canvas. I re-discovered this wreck after 25 years, was again captivated & found it irresistible to paint. It is extremely remote and indeed unknown to many. As gravity, the river and the elements take their toll the wreck becomes ever more interesting. The story behind the wreck is unknown but she has an iron frame to which wooden planking and the hull timbers are affixed, the engine, which can be seen through the rapidly decaying hull, would appear to be a diesel or heavy oil type driving a single shaft. The screw/propeller is long gone. I'd guess that she was once a passenger pleasure boat or ferry. The hold is relatively small and there appears to be day cabins towards the stern. Perhaps she was going for scrap and abandoned. A mystery.
(Anecdotal evidence from a local was that most of these wrecks were due for scrap before the nearby scrapyard went bankrupt)
